Remove the front seat
Removing complete cover of fuel tank
Removing fuel tank
Disengaging fuel tank retaining bridge

(+) Removing pressure modulator
(-) Removing pressure modulator
Remove sealing screw (1) with sealing washers (2) and remove brake line (3).
Remove sealing screw (4) with sealing washers (5) and remove brake line (6).
Move brake lines (3) and (6) to one side.
Open the cable tie (arrow).
Remove sealing screw (1) with sealing washers (2) and remove brake line (7).
Remove sealing screw (4) with sealing washers (5) and remove brake line (8).
Move brake lines (7) and (8) to one side.
Open the cable tie (arrow).
Disconnect plug (9) for the pressure modulator.
Loosen nuts (10).
Remove pressure modulator (11), noting rubber damper (12).
(+) Replacing pressure modulator
(-) Replacing pressure modulator
Remove the following components and transfer them to the new pressure modulator:
Screws (1)
Anti-twist stop (2)
Rubber damper (3)
Tighten screws (1) to specified tightening torque.

46 62 050 Renewing number plate carrier
Preparatory work

Remove the rear seat

Open the cable tie (arrow) and disconnect plug (1) for the rear lights.
Work cable (2) clear of the motorcycle.
Remove screws (3) with washers (4) and remove number-plate carrier (5).
(+) Removing number-plate light bulb
(-) Removing number-plate light bulb
Remove bulb for number-plate light (1).
Remove nuts (2) with washers (3).
Remove number-plate light (4).
(+) Remove the rear left and right turn indicators
(-) Remove the rear left and right turn indicators
Remove screw (1) and remove turn indicator glass (2).
Disconnect plugs (3) and (4) for the flashing turn indicator and work the cable clear.
Remove screw (5) with nut (6).
Remove flashing turn indicators (7).
Repeat this step in this routine on the other side of the motorcycle.
(+) Replace the number-plate carrier
(-) Replace the number-plate carrier
Secure new reflector (1) to the new number-plate carrier.
Transfer the following components from the old number-plate carrier to the new part:
Flat nuts (2)
Rubber grommets (3)
Tail-section wiring harness (4) with retaining clips (5)
(+) Installing rear turn indicators, left and right
(-) Installing rear turn indicators, left and right
Install flashing turn indicator (7).
Install screw (5) with nut (6).

Replacing fuel filter (Inspection III)
In normal operating conditions every 40 000 km (24 000 miles); if fuel quality is poor every 20 000 km (12 000 miles)
Remove seat.
Remove left fairing side section, followed by right fairing side section.
Disconnect air intake pipe from air filter box and remove.
Caution:
Fuel is flammable and a hazard to health. Observe relevant safety regulations.
Disengage the fuel tank.
Seal the fuel feed and return lines with hose clips, BMW No. 13 3 010, and disconnect.
Pull the plug connector off the fuel pump unit.
Remove the fuel tank.

Disassembling/assembling alternator
Remove the cover retaining screws (1).
Unscrew nut (2) and remove sleeve (3).
Remove the cover.
Remove voltage regulator (4).
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Note:
The belt pulley cannot be removed.
Checking alternator
Test with BMW MoDiTeC.
Checking armature for short to ground (earth)
Test with BMW MoDiTeC.

Remove brake fluid reservoir from holder.
Remove rear brake pipe from holder.
Detach retaining clip from ball head/shift linkage
and remove ball head.
Take off the footrest plates.
Unfasten rear frame screw connections but only
loosen front strut mounts.
Remove suspension strut.

Remove rear brake caliper.
Unfasten strut at gearbox housing.
Heat rear wheel drive pivot pin to max. 120 °C/ loosen.
Remove rear wheel.
Remove rear wheel drive unit.
Remove swinging arm/heat pivot pin to max. 120 °C and remove.
Press off drive shaft.
Unfasten fuel line from injector and remove.
Remove cable connector/wiring harness from air cleaner box.
Detach return line/oil trap from air cleaner box.
Remove air cleaner box.
Disconnect clutch cable from gearbox. [RS/GS/R] Detach starter motor cover and pull off wire to power socket.
Detach cable from starter motor.
Detach oil pressure sensor cable.
Detach side stand switch cable.
Detach injector cable
Detach throttle angle sensor cable.

Par de apriete:
Tirante al grupo de propulsión trasera………. 43 Nm
Apretar la cinta de sujeción (6) del fuelle.
En caso dado, rellenar con aceite.
Cantidad de llenado:
Primer llenado ………………………………………… 0,25 l
Cambio de aceite ……………………………………. 0,23 l
Clase de aceite para engranajes:
Aceite de marca para engranajes hipoidales, clase API SAE 90 GL 5 [ABS]/[RS/R/RT] Montar el disco de freno en la
posición marcada previamente.
Montar la rueda trasera.
Montar la mordaza de freno.
Atención:
¡No dañar los forros de freno, no ladearlos!
[GS/R/RT]/[ABS] Montar el rensor.
[ABS] Controlar la separación del sensor.
Separación del sensor
del ABS detrás: …………………………0,45…0,55 mm
[RS] Montar el soporte para la matrícula.
[GS] Montar la cubierta de la rueda trasera.
