EXCERPT:
Completion of Parking
Once the system has detected the vehicle is parked in the final position the message center informs the driver the park assist function is complete. The driver selects neutral/park gear position and switches off the engine.
The park assist system is configured to operate a maximum of seven maneuvers, with each movement counting as one maneuver. This is more than adequate as most park assist maneuvers are complete and the vehicle is in the final parking position within four reverse and forward movements.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION – CAMERA SYSTEM
Lo-Line Camera System
A shielded co-axial cable connection between the camera and the Touch Screen Display (TSD) is used for the video image transmission.
The camera receives power at all times when the ignition is in power mode 6 or 7. When reverse is selected, the camera then sends a message to entertainment system requesting for the image to be displayed on the TSD.
When reverse gear is deselected, the camera image remains on the TSD for 5 seconds after the transmission has been put into drive ‘D’, ‘P’, ‘N’, or ‘S’. This is to prevent the TSD switching between screens if the vehicle is being manoeuvred into a parking space. If the vehicle forward speed exceeds 16 km/h (10 mph) within the 5 second period, the camera image is removed from the TSD.
If the TSD display is switched off, the camera image will be automatically displayed when reverse gear is selected. When reverse gear is deselected and the 5 second period has expired, the TSD will revert back to its switched off state.
Lo-Line Rear View Camera
The rear view camera provides additional information to the driver when reversing the vehicle. When reverse gear is selected the camera integrated into the tailgate handle, automatically displays a wide-angle color image of the view from the rear of the vehicle onto the TSD.
Overlay graphics are displayed by a combination of signals received on the medium speed CAN to the TSD.

Power Steering – Steering Gear
Disassembly and Assembly
Disassembly
WARNING: Wear safety glasses while removing and refitting circlips and retaining ring.
CAUTION: Absolute cleanliness is essential when overhauling steering gear.
• NOTE: Overhaul of steering gear should not be carried out during the warranty period.
• NOTE: This procedure is for Adwest steering gear only.
1. Remove steering gear from vehicle.
For additional information, refer to: Steering Gear (211-02 Power Steering, Removal and Installation).
Mark drop arm and steering gear for realignment on assembly. Remove drop arm using extractor LRT-57-012.
Loosen drop arm securing nut, but do not remove before using extractor. Remove dirt excluder from output shaft.
2. Drain oil, remove blanking plugs and bleed screw. Hold steering gear over suitable container, turn input shaft from lock to lock, until oil is drained. Refit bleed screw.
3. Rotate retainer ring until one end is 12 mm from extractor hole. Using a drift through hole in cylinder, lift retaining ring from groove in cylinder bore.
4. Remove retainer ring, using a screwdriver.
5. Turn input shaft (left lock on left hand drive vehicles, right lock on right hand drive vehicles) until piston pushes out cover. Turn input shaft fully in opposite direction, applying pressure to piston.

COOLING SYSTEM – V8
Description
General
The cooling system employed is the bypass type, which allows coolant to circulate around the engine and the heater circuit while the thermostat is closed. The primary function of the cooling system is to maintain the engine within an optimum temperature range under changing ambient and engine operating conditions. Secondary functions are to provide heating for the passenger compartment and cooling for the transmission fluid. The cooling system comprises:
l Radiator
l Passenger compartment heater matrix
l Transmission fluid cooler
l Coolant pump
l Thermostat
l Expansion tank
l Viscous cooling fan
l Electric cooling fan
l Connecting hoses and pipes
l Fuel Burning Heater (FBH) – selected markets only
l Liquid cooled alternator housing.
The coolant is circulated by a centrifugal type pump mounted on the front of the engine and driven by an ancillary drive ‘polyvee’ belt. The coolant pump circulates coolant through the cylinder block and the cylinder heads via a chamber located in the ‘vee’ of the engine. Having passed through the engine, the coolant returns via a rear-mounted manifold that features the connections for the heater matrix and through pipes running in the ‘vee’ of the engine to the coolant pump. The coolant pump also circulates coolant to the radiator-mounted transmission fluid cooler and the liquid cooled alternator housing via flexible hoses.
The die-cast coolant pump, driven by an ancillary drive belt, is fitted to the timing case cover. It contains the dual
coolant temperature sensor and the electrically heated ‘map controlled’ thermostat controlled by the engine management system.
The map controlled thermostat incorporates a heating element inside a conventional expanding wax thermostat core which enables the engine management system to ‘power’ the thermostat open when the engine is under full load and/or high output conditions. This provides sufficient cooling reserve through anticipation of the thermal load whilst allowing the engine to run at higher operating temperatures under part load conditions.

Manual Transmission/Transaxle External Controls – External Controls
Description and Operation
COMPONENT LOCATION
Item Part Number Description
1 – Shift cables
2 – Gear knob
3 – Selector lever assembly
4 – Selector lever mounting plate
INTRODUCTION
The manual transmission external controls comprise a selector lever assembly and 2 shift cables. The selector allows the driver to engage the 6 forward gears and reverse gear.
The selector lever assembly is located in a central position on the transmission tunnel, between the front driver and passenger seats and is secured to the transmission tunnel with 4 bolts. The selector lever assembly is a non-serviceable mechanical assembly.
Selections made using the selector lever are passed to the transmission lever arm by the shift cables. Ball pins on the selector lever provide for the attachment of the shift cables.
The selector has a vehicle speed dependent solenoid interlock device. This ensures that the driver is prevented from accidentally selecting reverse gear.
