ADJUSTMENTS
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
1. Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC of compression stroke. Ensure No. 2 and No. 4 exhaust and, No. 3 and No. 4 intake valves are sunk lower than the other valves.
2. Adjust clearance of No. 1 intake and exhaust, No. 2 intake, and No. 3 exhaust valves. Turn adjusting screw until rocker arm just touches valve stem. Turn adjusting screw 1 more turn. Tighten locknut. Turn crankshaft 1 revolution and adjust remaining valves.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
ENGINE
Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove hood. Disconnect air cleaner hose. Drain coolant and disconnect all coolant hoses. Remove radiator.
Disconnect and label all electrical wiring and vacuum hoses.
2. Disconnect throttle cable. Remove air cleaner with air flow meter. Remove radiator upper baffle with fan and motor. Remove shift lever from inside
vehicle.
3. Raise and support vehicle. Remove drive shaft, starter, speedometer cable, and clutch release cable. Remove engine mount bolts. Place wood block between oil pan and front crossmember.
4. Attach chain hoist to engine. Remove rear engine mount. Lower vehicle.
Remove engine and transmission from vehicle. Separate engine from transmission.
Installation
To install reverse removal procedure. Restore all wiring, linkages, cables, hoses, and lines to original locations.
INTAKE & EXHAUST MANIFOLDS
Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect air cleaner hose and throttle cable. Disconnect and label all fuel, coolant, and vacuum lines from intake chamber.
2. Remove PCV hose from valve cover. Remove air intake chamber brackets.
Remove air intake pipe with air intake chamber and air valve. Remove fuel injection wire harness from manifold.
3. Remove heater outlet hose with pipe. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds. Maximum intake and exhaust manifold warp limit is .008″ (.20 mm).
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure, ensuring that mating surfaces are clean and new gaskets are used. Tighten 2 center bolts first, then top front, bottom rear, bottom front, and top rear in that order.
CYLINDER HEAD
Removal
1. Drain cooling system and remove upper radiator hose. Remove intakeexhaust manifold assembly as previously outlined. Disconnect all coolant hoses from cylinder head. Remove valve cover.
