TRANSFER COVER – UNIT DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY
Disassembly and Assembly
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove transfer cover mounting bolts (<=). 2. Lightly tap transfer cover with a plastic hammer to remove transfer cover. 3. Remove O-ring from transfer cover. CAUTION: • Never use a tool. • Never damage transfer cover. 4. Lightly tap the metal part of oil seals with punch from back side of transfer cover to remove oil seals. CAUTION: When removing, never damage the transfer cover by scooping it out with a tool. 5. Remove the ring gear bearing adjusting shim (transfer cover side) and ring gear bearing outer race (transfer cover side) using drift (commercial service tool). 6. Remove drain plug and gasket. 7. Remove filler plug and gasket. 8. Perform inspection after disassembly. Refer to DLN-65, "Inspection". ASSEMBLY 1. Select the ring gear bearing adjusting shim (transfer cover side). Refer to DLN-74, "Adjustment". 2. Install the selected ring gear bearing adjusting shim (transfer cover side) and ring gear bearing outer race (transfer cover side) using drift (commercial service tool). CAUTION: • Never reuse ring gear bearing. • Apply gear oil to the ring gear bearing. 3. Install gasket onto drain plug and install them to transfer cover. CAUTION: Never reuse gasket. 4. Install the transfer cover to the transfer case, and apply anti-corrosive oil onto thread and seats on the mounting bolts. Then tighten mounting bolts to the specified torque. NOTE: At this timing, O-ring installing to transfer cover is not necessary. Install O-ring after tooth contact is checked. 5. Check backlash, tooth contact, total preload and companion flange runout. Refer to DLN-74, "Adjustment". CAUTION: Measure the total preload without oil seals of transfer cover and transfer case. 6. Remove transfer cover to install O-ring. 7. Apply multi-purpose grease lightly and evenly onto an O-ring, and install it to the transfer cover. CAUTION: • Never reuse O-ring. • When installing O-ring, never use a tool. • Never damage O-ring. 8. Install the transfer cover to the transfer case, and apply anti-corrosive oil onto thread and seats on the mounting bolts. Then tighten mounting bolts to the specified torque. 9. Using drift (commercial service tool), drive the transfer cover oil seals. CAUTION: • When checking the total preload torque, measure it without the oil seal, then install the oil seal. • Never reuse the oil seal. • When installing, never incline oil seal. • Apply multi-purpose grease onto oil seal lips, and gear oil onto the circumference of the oil seal. 10. Install gasket onto filler plug and install them to transfer cover. CAUTION: • Never reuse gasket. • Install filler plug after oil is filled. DRIVE BELTS
Checking Drive Belts
WARNING:
Be sure to perform when the engine is stopped.
1. Inspect belts for cracks, fraying, wear and oil. If necessary, replace.
2. Tighten auto-tensioner lock nut (models with A/C compressor) or idler pulley lock nut (models without A/C compressor) by hand and measure deflection or tension without looseness.
3. When measuring deflection, apply 98 N (10 kg, 22 lb) at the marked point as shown (models without A/C compressor).
Tension Adjustment
MODELS WITH A/C COMPRESSOR
Belt tensioning is not necessary, as it is automatically adjusted by auto-tensioner.
MODELS WITHOUT A/C COMPRESSOR
Tighten the accessories belt using tool (Mot. 1638) by tightening the nut (both tension wheel mounting bolts are loosened).
Check the belt tension using tools (Mot. 1715) and (Mot. 1505)

Main Power Window and Door Lock/Unlock Switch
• Main power window and door lock/unlock switch controls all power windows.
• Main power window and door lock/unlock switch integrates UP/DOWN switch, power window lock switch, and door lock/unlock switch.
• Main power window and door lock/unlock switch controls power window lock function and AUTO UP/DOWN function.
• Receives encoder pulse signal and then controls anti-pinch system.

Power Window and Door Lock/Unlock Switch RH
• Power window and door lock/unlock switch RH transmits AUTO UP/DOWN signal to front power window motor RH.
• Receives AUTO UP/DOWN signal from BCM and then transmits to front power window motor RH.
• Receives encoder pulse signal and then controls anti-pinch system. Rear Power Window

Switch
• Each power window switch transmits UP/DOWN signal to each motor.
• Each power window switch transmits UP/DOWN signal from main power window and door lock/unlock switch to each motor.

Power Window Motor
• Integrates the encoder for front power windows.
• Starts operation according to signals from each power window switch.
• Transmits each power window motor rotation as a pulse signal to each power window switch.

POWER WINDOW OPERATION
• Power window system is activated by the power window switches when the ignition switch is in the ON position or during the retained power operation after ignition switch turns OFF.
• Main power window and door lock/unlock switch can open/close door glass.
• Front and rear power window switches can open/close the corresponding door glass.
• Power window lock switch can lock all power windows other than driver front.
• Front power windows open when pressing Intelligent Key unlock button for 3 seconds.
• If door glass receives resistance that is more than the specified value and the power window is in the AUTOUP operation, power window will move in the reverse direction (anti-pinch function).
POWER WINDOW AUTO-OPERATION
• AUTO-UP/DOWN operation can be performed when each power window motor turns to AUTO.
• Encoder continues detecting the movement of power window motor and outputs the encoder pulse signal to power window switch while power window motor is operating.
• Power window switch reads the changes of encoder signal and stops AUTO operation when door glass is at fully open/closed position.
• Power window motor is operable in case encoder is malfunctioning.
• AUTO function does not operate if encoder is malfunctioning.

INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
< REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION >
REMOVAL
I. Remove instrument lower center cover.
1. Apply protective tape (A) to console finisher assembly to protect from the damage.
2. Apply protective tape (A) around the part to protect from
damage.
3. Insert suitable tool (A) between instrument lower center cover and center console assembly to disengage the metal clips as shown.
4. Lift up instrument lower center cover, then disconnect harness connectors.
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch console finisher assembly with pawl or metal clip of instrument lower center cover.
II. Remove instrument lower cover LH.
1. Remove clip (A).
2. Pull the instrument lower cover LH crosswise, and disengage the pawls.
CAUTION: Release pawls slowly so that they are not damaged.
III. Remove instrument lower cover RH.
1. Remove clip (A).
2. Pull the instrument lower cover RH crosswise, and disengage the pawls.
CAUTION: Release pawls slowly so that they are not damaged.
IV. Release front pillar portion of front body side welt LH. Refer to INT-29, “BODY SIDE WELT : Removal and Installation”.
V. Remove front pillar garnish LH. Refer to INT-26, “FRONT PILLAR GARNISH : Removal and Installation”.
VI. Remove instrument mask LH.

AWD : Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
Left Side
Remove tires with power tool. Refer to WT-39, “Removal and Installation”.
Remove wheel sensor and sensor harness. Refer to BRC-147, “FRONT WHEEL SENSOR : Exploded View”.
Remove lock plate from strut assembly. Refer to BR-25, “FRONT : Removal and Installation”.
Remove caliper assembly. Hang caliper assembly not to interfere with work. Refer to BR-55, “BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY : Removal and Installation”.
CAUTION:
Never depress brake pedal while brake caliper is removed.
Remove disc rotor.
CAUTION:
• Put matching marks (A) on the wheel hub assembly and the disc rotor before removing the disc rotor.
• Never drop disc rotor.
Remove cotter pin, and adjusting cap, and then loosen wheel hub lock nut with power tool.
Patch wheel hub lock nut with a piece of wood. Hammer the wood to disengage wheel hub assembly from drive shaft.
NOTE:
Use suitable puller, if wheel hub assembly and drive shaft cannot be separated even after performing the above procedure.
8. Remove wheel hub lock nut.
9. Remove strut assembly from steering knuckle. Refer to FSU-9, “Removal and Installation”.
10. Remove draive shaft from wheel hub assembly.
CAUTION:
• Never place drive shaft joint at an extreme angle. Also be careful not to overextend slide joint.
• Never allow drive shaft to hang down without support for joint sub-assembly, shaft and the other parts.
11. Use the drive shaft attachment (A) [SST:KV40107500 ( — )] and a sliding hammer (B) (commercial service tool) while inserting tip of the drive shaft attachment between shaft and transaxle assembly, and then remove drive shaft from transaxle assembly.
CAUTION:
• Never place drive shaft joint at an extreme angle when removing drive shaft. Also be careful not to overextend slide joint.
• Confirm that the circular clip is attached to the drive shaft.
