PERIODIC INSPECTION
As even a healthy man receives periodic examinations to maintain his health and to discover a disease in an early stage, so an engine generator requires periodic inspections to maintain its performance and to discover a trouble in an early stage. While the periodic inspection timings are specified in this manual and the instruction manual, it is important to conduct periodic inspections regardless of the inspection and servicing timings if it was recognized as necessary in view of the operating conditions of the machine or its activity rate, the daily inspection, etc.
Described in this chapter are the cautions when inspecting the generator and the handling of the engine cooling water, fuel, and oil. Table 3.1 shows the inspection and servicing list for your reference.
1. AC GENERATOR
The generator, which is prone to be damaged by moisture, oil, dust, etc., must always be kept dry and clean. To clean the generator, a dry cloth should be used instead of a cloth dampened with water or oil. When using compressed air, use dry air, and clean the machine interior beforehand. (We recommend to use an electric vacuum cleaner.)
During the daily inspection check abnormal noise generation from the generator, odor, abnormal vibration, etc. by using a screwdriver or a rod. Also check by using a torque wrench at least once every six months that the engine coupling, which is an important part, is tightened to the specified torque.

Viscous Vibration Damper – Cleaning
Warning: When using a steam cleaner, wear protective clothing and safety glasses or a face shield. Hot steam will cause serious personal injury.
Clean the vibration damper with a solvent cleaner or steam clean. Dry with compressed air.
Viscous Vibration Damper – Inspection
Check the mounting web for cracks. Check the housing for dents or raised surfaces. Replace the vibration damper if any of these defects are identified.

ADJUSTING INJECTOR SET LOAD
1. Remove the cover of the flywheel housing, then install barring device G1.
2. Remove the cylinder head cover.
3. Using barring device G1, rotate the crankshaft in the normal direction to set No. 1 cylinder at compression top dead center, and align pointer b with the [1.6TOP] line a on the crankshaft pulley.
★ Watch the movement of the rocker arm and check that the No. 1 cylinder is at the compression stroke. (If the rocker arms for both the intake and exhaust sides move only the amount of the valve clearance, the cylinder is at the compression stroke.)
★ The cylinder where at compression top is different from the cylinder where the injector is being adjusted, so check the table below when carrying out the operation.

FUEL SYSTEM – STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
The block assembly in place can be angularly repositioned, relative to the pump housing, by turning the flange sleeve. Turning the block affects the injection timing. Thus, the relationship between the plunger and the inlet port is determined by the angular and vertical positions of the block assembly in the housing.
The pressure-feed lubrication mentioned previously refers to the tappets. Pressurized lubricating oil is led into the pump housing from the engine lubricating system. An oil orifice opens out into the bore in which the tappet reciprocates in sliding contact. The oil is forced through the orifice into this sliding clearance around the tappet. The camshaft and the moving parts in the governor are lubricated with this oil. A return line is provided to return the oil back to the engine lubricating system.

(*) The CRI system controls the fuel injection rate and fuel injection timing more properly than the mechanical governor or timer of the conventional fuel injection pump.
(*) For the control of the system, calculations necessary to the ECU are performed from the signals sent from the sensors installed to the engine and machine.
(*) The energizing timing and energizing period of the injector are so controlled that the optimum quantity of fuel will be injected in the optimum timing.
1. Fuel injection rate control function
(*) The fuel injection rate control function is employed instead of the function of the conventional governor. It controls the fuel injection according to the signals of engine speed and accelerator angle so that the fuel injection rate will be most proper.
2. Fuel injection timing control function
(*) The fuel injection timing control function is employed instead of the function of the conventional timer. It controls the fuel injection timing most properly from the engine speed and fuel injection rate.
3. Fuel injection pressure control function (Common rail fuel pressure control function)
(*) The fuel injection control function (common rail fuel pressure control function) controls the fuel discharge rate of the fuel supply pump by measuring the fuel pressure by the common rail fuel pressure sensor and feeding it back to ECU.
(*) This function performs pressure feedback control so that the fuel injection pressure will be the same as the optimum value (command value) set according to the engine speed and fuel injection rate…
